This is a FREE public preserve with 170 acres, a museum of natural history with a bird blind and a magical forest play area, the historic 207-year-old Mahan Manor and Spring House, beautiful gardens, nine miles of wooded trails, four springs, waterfalls, picnic pavilions, gazebos, and numerous recreational opportunities.
Oldham County is famous for being the "Farm Tour Capital of Kentucky" with its 17 fun tours. The farms are "working" farms, so tours need to be scheduled. Here are two examples:
Tours are given April through October. Enjoy the Garden Center and let the children see and feed Arabian and miniature donkeys, goats, pot-bellied pigs, alpacas, and fish, and learn how to milk a goat! Let them climb Wood Chip Mountain, tour the butterfly habitat, and see the train exhibit.
Tours are by appointment only for this small farm where the animals are healthy, happy, and spoiled. The fiber studio is a place to relax and maybe learn a new skill.
